The world’s largest cryptocurrency custodian has launched a major campaign in Canada.

Last year, Coinbase launched “Support Crypto” in the United States, with the goal of disrupting the traditional American financial system by encouraging the adoption and legitimacy of cryptocurrencies as legal currencies and investments.

The campaign notes that more than 50 million Americans own cryptocurrency and nearly 90 percent “believe the financial system needs updating.”

The nonprofit Stand With Crypto Alliance, which advocates for “common-sense regulation” for the cryptocurrency industry, expanded north of the border this month.

After a year in the United States, the campaign has amassed more than a million supporters, who have donated a total of nearly $180 million to the cause, according to Coinbase data.

Now, the fintech giant is looking to rally Canada’s five million cryptocurrency holders to do battle.

The series of events will feature Alberta Premier Danielle Smith along with executives from major cryptocurrency firms, who will come together to discuss the potential of Canadian cryptocurrencies.
