Donald Trump promises support for cryptocurrencies and will accept it as a campaign donation
Donald Trump, the Republican Party’s candidate for president of the United States, told a gathering of supporters that he supports cryptocurrency and that his campaign will accept donations on it.
Talking to buyers of his “Mugshot Edition” of non-fungible tokens, Trump said that if the cryptocurrency wasn’t already accepted by his campaign, he would make sure it was.
Trump also mocked President Biden, suggesting that the current White House president and his rival in the presidential race does not understand cryptocurrency and at the same time is against it.
During collection, organized for buyers who had purchased more than 47 of his NFTs priced at $99 each, Trump also addressed the issue of crypto firms leaving the United States due to perceived hostility. He he pledged to work to preserve these businesses within the country, saying:
If cryptocurrencies are moving away from the United States because of hostility towards cryptocurrencies… well, we will stop it. We don’t want it. If we want to embrace it, we have to leave them here.
Co-founder of Electric Capital Avichal Garg praised Trump’s evolving stance on cryptocurrency also highlighting that if Biden maintains an anti-crypto stance, Democrats as a whole may become associated with anti-crypto sentiment.
It’s amazing to see the evolution from @realDonaldTrump on cryptocurrencies. Whoever is educating him on this issue is crushing him.
Self @JoeBiden remains anti-crypto, the downstream consequence is that crypto goes from Anti-Gensler to Anti-Biden to anti-Democrats. https://t.co/R8bWy8DPsJ
