Joe Lubin teases plan to bring ConsenSys mainstream, what’s next?
With massive developments in the cryptocurrency industry, such as Bitcoin and Ether, becoming mainstream, the sector has managed to weather a punishing bear market. DL News provided an update on ConsenSys’ plans to go mainstream. The question arises spontaneously: is the ground finally ready for the listing of ConsenSys, one of the most influential technology companies in the cryptocurrency sector?
Lubin’s insights into public listing strategies
Joe Lubin, founder and CEO of ConsensSys, hinted at this possibility during an interview at the DappCon conference in Berlin. He said the IPO has been a topic of discussion for a long time. Lubin highlighted the different ways to go public within the crypto ecosystem, such as launching or tokenizing a protocol or outsourcing a project. He pointed out that if ConsenSys were to go public, it would likely use its own technology.
Lubin suggested potential spin-offs of major units such as MetaMask, Infura or Linea, highlighting the success of past projects such as Gnosis. While details are scarce, he said ConsenSys is working with accounting firm KPMG, suggesting something significant is in the works. Lubin made it clear that ConsenSys prefers to blockchain approach based on stock exchange listing rather than listing shares on traditional stock exchanges. He recognized the value of America’s capital markets but expressed a preference for leveraging its own technology.

Strategic moves and security priorities
Lubin, who previously worked at Goldman Sachs, is also exploring acquisitions to strengthen ConsenSys’ position. He mentioned that the board of directors had approved a new venture, particularly in the area of cybersecurity, but did not provide specific details.
Lubin highlighted ConsenSys’ history of acquisitions, intellectual property purchases and takeovers, underscoring the importance of security for end users. Given MetaMask’s high value and vulnerability, he emphasized the need to protect against potential threats, describing the crypto ecosystem as rife with certain types of predators.
