Trump posts ‘Our country must be the leader in the (crypto) field’ before speech before libertarians
Donald J. Trump doubled down on his recent embrace of crypto today, posting on social media: “I am very positive and open-minded towards cryptocurrency companies and all things related to this new and burgeoning industry,” as both sides in the upcoming presidential election appear to be trying to win over pro-crypto voters.
Trump then fired back at his rival: “Crooked Joe Biden, on the other hand, the worst president in the history of our country, wants him to die a slow and painful death.”
Sentiment toward crypto has noticeably improved in Washington since Trump deliberately sought to woo pro-crypto voters. First, the former president did pro-crypto comments earlier this month at a dinner at Mar-a-Lago. Then, last Tuesday, Trump’s presidential campaign started accepting crypto donationsfulfilling the presumptive Republican nominee’s promise to become the first major party candidate to adopt bitcoin, ether and other digital currencies.
Following Trump’s pro-crypto rhetoric and actions, the Biden administration’s opposition to crypto, as well as the attitude of the traditionally adversarial Securities and Exchange Commission, appears to have softened. Last Wednesday, the White House issued a statement expressing its opposition to the passage of a crypto market framework bill by the House of Representatives, but Biden did not threaten to veto it. O Chamber approved the measure, which now goes to the Senate. Then on Thursday, ether exchange-traded funds (ETF) took a big step toward becoming available in the U.S. after the Securities and Exchange Commission approved the main regulatory registrations. Such approval was considered extremely unlikely just a month ago.
